Cabinet Painting vs. Cabinet Replacement
A full kitchen renovation is not always necessary. Here is how to decide whether refinishing or replacing your cabinets makes more sense for your budget and timeline.

The deciding factor is almost always the condition of the boxes, not the doors. If your cabinet boxes are solid, square, and well-anchored, and you are happy with the existing layout, refinishing delivers a dramatic visual change at a fraction of replacement cost, typically completed in under a week rather than several months. Replacement makes sense when boxes are water-damaged, particleboard is swelling, or the layout itself needs to change. One caveat worth understanding: cabinet refinishing is unusually sensitive to the quality of the work. A sprayed catalyzed finish applied in a controlled environment looks factory-made; a brushed job on unprepared surfaces will telegraph every stroke and chip within a year.
